The country around Hunter Valley
The Hunter is mixed country and that is what shapes the work. Vineyard blocks sit alongside grazing runs, thoroughbred studs, cropping ground, forestry and the river flats, and each of those has a different feral animal problem and a different tolerance for how it gets solved.
Horse country deserves its own mention. On a stud, the tolerance for disturbance is close to zero and the cost of a hole in a fence line is not theoretical. Suppressed night work and a control plan built around where stock are held is not a nicety here, it is the only way the job gets done at all.
River and creek systems are the thing to understand here. They give feral pigs water, cover and a corridor to move along, which means pressure often arrives from outside the boundary rather than building up inside it. Control that only works the paddocks and ignores the creek lines gets a short-lived result.
