Ground shooting is the part of a control program that brings numbers down quickly. Done properly it is quiet, accurate and unremarkable, and the first anyone knows about it is the report the next morning.
On Point operates under a NSW Firearms Licence Category A, B and D as a VPAC accredited contract shooter and business, with a NSW Prohibited Weapons Permit for suppressors and full public liability insurance.
Thermal, and after dark
Experienced operators run purpose-built thermal optics for humane, accurate and discreet control after dark, when feral animals are most active and most damaging. Working at night is not a preference, it is where the result is.
Suppressors, permitted under the NSW Prohibited Weapons Permit, matter for two reasons: they reduce disturbance to stock and neighbours, and they keep a mob from scattering off the property after the first shot.
Humane and accountable
Accuracy is an animal welfare requirement before it is anything else. On Point holds AHCPMG304, use firearms to humanely destroy animals, and the control method is chosen for the species and the country rather than for convenience.
Every operation is documented. You get post-operation reporting with GIS-ready outputs and chain-of-custody documentation, which is what lets you put your name to the result afterwards.
Working around stock, dwellings and neighbours
Most properties are not empty country. Site assessment covers access, risk, stock, dwellings, public boundaries and neighbouring holdings before any operation is planned, and those constraints shape the method rather than being worked around on the night.
Where it fits in a program
Ground shooting works best behind a thermal survey, so effort goes where the animals are rather than where they were last seen. For sustained pressure it is paired with trapping and baiting, which holds numbers down between visits.

Are you licensed to do this work?

Are you insured?
Yes. Full public liability insurance is maintained for all operations. A certificate of currency is available on request.
Do you work at night?
Most of it is night work. Feral animals are active after dark, and thermal optics make night the most effective time to work. Day operations happen where the species or the property calls for it.
What about noise near stock or neighbours?
Suppressors are permitted under our NSW Prohibited Weapons Permit and are used to reduce disturbance. It keeps stock settled and stops a mob scattering off the property after the first shot.
